Hi,Ho, Hi, Ho, It’s off to work we go ……
We spent two very full days in September at Rocky Creek Scout Campground, Landsborough, sorting through memorabilia, the ultimate aim to record the history of Beaver Masters Scout District on a Heritage Wall in the Training Centre.  But it wasn’t all work as we enjoyed fellowship at Morning Teas and lunches, and discovered the many "treasures" that had been dumped at the Campground over the years.
Boxes of books have been sent to Qld Branch Scout Heritage to replace those lost in the flood, and surplus badges are going to the Scout Museum at BP Park for assessment.  Our next mission is gather together all the history of the District and Groups, and to finalise the displays. But before we mount the displays, we will need to paint the wall and will liaise with the District Commissioner re this. We do envisage this project to take many months to complete.
Thanks to those who managed to attend the Working Bees so far.  I am sure there will be many more opportunities for everyone to contribute.

A Walk through Time
This is exactly what we did when we met at Caboolture Historical Village in August.   We gathered at the Gazebo inside the Village for a shared Morning Tea before setting forth to explore the many buildings in the Village, which sparkled in the warm sun owing to the preceding days of rain.
We wandered through the lives of people over a century ago, learned about their livelihoods, and marvelled at their ability to adapt over time.   Over lunch we compared notes and set forth again, culminating in a train trip around the village driven by an ex scout from New South Wales. Amazing who we meet on our travels.
The Village is kept in tip top condition supported by many volunteers and well worth a visit.   All in all, a good outing enjoyed by all members.

We were joined by Vince Littleford on this day. Vince is a member of Allawah Guild, and we were pleased to welcome him.

Heritage Night Course at Nambour Museum – Two members representing Qld Scouts Heritage and five other Guild Members gathered at the Museum on the night of 16 August and conducted a Local History Badge Course for Palmwoods Cub Scouts.   As usual the Nambour Museum was in pristine condition (all run by volunteers) and we thank them for the use of the premises.
Cub Scouts, Leaders, and parents were very appreciative of the time and effort expended by the Heritage Leaders and the Guild, and a good night was had by all.

FOND FAREWELL and WELCOME BACK
We gathered on a brilliant day at a favourite picnic spot at Yaroomba to farewell Eleanor and Pat Clifford, who have retired from the Guild.

Pat and Eleanor have been Guild members for eighteen years and served as Secretary and Treasurer.  In the last few years Eleanor was Welfare Officer, and we all looked forward to our Birthday cards.  Their guidance in Guild matters has been invaluable, especially in the early years of my involvement.

To mark this occasion we presented Pat and Eleanor with a Clock, suitably inscribed.  Over Morning Tea and Lunch we then shared in the happy memories of their years in Guilding, and hope they can join us again on special occasions.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We also welcomed back Lorraine and Bill Rumph to the Guild.  They were missing in action for a while owing to ill health.   We hope that is all behind them now and they will be able to join in all our future activities.
Marvellous Mooloolaba
Our AGM on 24 June 2011 on The Spit at Mooloolaba was a great success.   The sun was warm, the Morning Tea was plentiful, the company distinguished.   We welcomed the Chief Commissioner for Guiding, Monica Elliott (who presented us with a banner commemorating her visit), District Commissioner Nambour, Pam, and husband Allan, Assistant District Commissioner Beaver Masters, Russell, Representative from Sunshine Wanderers Trefoil, Josie, and Del and Michael from Valley Guild.   Our Guest Speaker, Trevor from the Caloundra Coast Guard, was very informative and we all enjoyed his talk.
As well, our other Guests explained their volunteer roles in the community in a two minute address each.   At meeting’s end we all enjoyed lunch.   Thanks to all who attended.    It was a great day.
A donation will be made to the Caloundra Coast Guard to assist them in their good work.
A sad note to the day was the announcement of the retirement of Pat and Eleanor.   We plan to give them a “proper send-off” in July to celebrate their 18 years of Service to the Guild.   Over the last few years Eleanor has always made sure we received a nice birthday card in her role in Welfare.   Helen has now taken this on.
And by the way, the same executive was returned unopposed.   We must be doing something right!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Service – Rocky Creek
We have been asked to continue in our work in sorting memorabilia and mounting a Heritage Display.
Unfortunately the small hut we were working in was needed for accommodation so all the “stuff” has been moved to a back bedroom in the Caretaker’s Cottage.
And more memorabilia was discovered in the Q Store.   To that end, Neville, Trevor, and I will liaise with the new caretakers to sort through this latest “find”, and also how we access the back bedroom to continue the project.

Nambour Museum
Their next open Day is Saturday 20 August 1-4pm titled “Toys and Games” for Seniors Week.

Cleaning Roster – July – Helen and Glen.    August – Fay.

We have also been approached to run a Heritage Course for Palmwoods Cub Scouts in August so I will be contacting all those involved for a suitable date.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kawana Shoppingworld Promotion Trevor and Neville are continuing these every month and enjoy lots of chats and many cups of coffee as they bring the display board and information on Scouting, Guiding and Guilding to the attention of the general public.   Their efforts were especially praised by the Chief Commissioner for Guides, Monica Elliott, at our recent AGM.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Members News
All were present and in good health (except Irene) at the AGM.   Fay enjoyed her holiday in New South Wales, Glen and Helen are off to Longreach by train, and Irene and Neville are off to Mt. Isa by train.

Val and George are again our Reps for other AGMs at Peninsular and Valley.   Fay and Helen will be our reps at the Sunshine Wanderers Trefoil AGM.

Happy Birthday to Trevor for 3rd July. We hope you enjoyed your special day.

Future Dates
Friday 29 July - Meeting at Yaroomba – farewell to Eleanor and Pat.  &mnsp;  &mnsp;  &mnsp;Shared M/T 10 to 10.30am. BYO lunch.
Friday 26th August – Visit to Caboolture Historical Village.
Saturday 3 September – 50th Anniversary Dinner and State AGM – Brisbane.
    Glen and Helen, Irene and Neville, Val and George to attend.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And How to determine if you are truly over the hill???
Have your broad mind and narrow waist exchanged places?
Do you stop to think and sometimes forget to start again?
Does your back go out more than you do?
Is the gleam in your eye from the sun hitting your bifocals?
Is caution the only thing you exercise?
Has everything started to wear out, fall out, or spread out?
When people tease you about your age, do you beat them with your cane?
What! Not me! We must be talking about somebody else!!
Until we meet again - Carry on.
RIDING the RAILS
On a beautiful day in May, five Guild Members rode the Gympie Rattler to Imbil and back. We started off with an early coffee in the Gympie Station Refreshment Rooms, followed by a tour through the back yards of Gympie, and then on to Imbil via all the little Stations. We enjoyed the peaceful, green countryside as we rattled along, spiced up by the comments of the conductor as he pointed out places of interest. At Imbil we lunched at one of the local cafes before boarding the train for the return journey. At Dagen Station there was an opportunity to sample wine and cheese (very tasty) before arriving back at Gympie and then the long drive home. Those of you who have already made this journey will probably remember it with fondness. We certainly enjoyed the day.
Sunshine Guild AGM
will be held on Friday 24 June 2011 at The Spit, Mooloolaba. We will meet at 10am for Morning Tea at 10.30am, followed by the AGM. Lunch is BYO or (Fish and Chips or equivalent nearby if so desired).
Please bring generous Morning Tea to share with guests, hat, and chair.
As we did not have a general meeting in May, there was no opportunity to nominate for Executive positions for 2011/12.  Most of the Executive have volunteered to serve again, but if anybody is keen to take a position, or change a Position, please advise Glen before the day.   Also bring to the meeting your ideas for activities and venues for the rest of the year.
OH!  WHAT a NIGHT!
- 19 Cub Scouts, 8 Joey Scouts, Leaders and Parents from Woombye Scout Group met at Nambour Museum on Wednesday 8 June for a fun night based on the Cub Scout Local History Badge. I think we had as much fun as they did, and all the Cub Scouts are well on their way to earning the badge. We would like to thank our fellow Guild members, Trevor, Glen, John, and Rosalind for their assistance.
Irene and Neville, Leaders in Qld., Scouts Heritage.
And on the same subject – Heritage
Because Scout H.Q. "went under" in the recent Brisbane floods, we lost a lot of valuable material in the Scout Heritage Archives.  However 40 boxes of paper material (files, books etc) were rescued and snap frozen,  and we are currently trying to dry out the contents.  So far we are up to Box No. 8, so there is a long way to go.  Thanks to the Guides we are using the Tarrigindi Guide Hut for this operation.  Thanks also to other Guild members in Brisbane who have dried photos and washed scarves.  Many hands make light work!!!
STATE GUILD NEWS
The State Guild will make a donation of $100 per child to be paid to Groups to help cover the cost of fees and uniforms, pending research on which ones need help, due to the recent floods.  This is possible because of the very generous donations received from member Guilds.
Celebrating 50 years of Guilding in Queensland – a luncheon will be held on Saturday 3 September 2011 at Mt. Gravatt Bowls Club. Cost is $35 for a buffet lunch. Bookings to Brenda on 3841 2896 or Chris on 3342 3275.
Bus Trip to Boonah – 23 June - Organised by the State Guild.  The bus leaves Stafford at 8.30am.  The day is hosted by the Boonah Trefoil Ladies.  Cost $30.  Ring Brenda on 3841 2896 to reserve a seat.
***************************************************************************************
    WORKING BEES AT ROCKY CREEK - I will be in touch with everyone to find a suitable date to continue these.
DATES TO REMEMBER
Friday 24 June - AGM Mooloolaba -     Annual Census Fees to be paid at this meeting.
June/July - Brisbane Gang Show
Friday 22 July - ?????
Saturday 3 September - 50th Anniversary Luncheon
And that’s all folks.   Over and Out.
Great Guild Getaway at Esk
Eight members of our Guild attended this very busy weekend in beautiful weather and enjoyed great fellowship with members from other Guilds.  Over forty members altogether went to the Royal Wedding on the Friday Night,  grabbed a bargain at the Saturday morning markets, wandered the main Street of Esk and contributed to the local economy, enjoyed a meal together on the Saturday night followed by musical entertainment, worshipped at a "Guild’s Own" on Sunday morning, followed by our Guild market convened by Val.
Thanks Val, we made $96.00.  Sunday afternoon was cards and games, and after a BBQ tea we enjoyed a Campfire, where Glen, Helen, and Neville added to the fun.
Some of us had to leave on the Monday morning, but those who stayed enjoyed a meal at a local restaurant on the Monday night.  Of course there were the morning and afternoon teas with the usual talkfest.
   What a weekend!!   Bring on next year.
Service with a smile.
On Saturday 7th May members catered for Morning and Afternoon Tea at the Suncoast Scout Regional Seminar at Maroochydore.nbsp; Over 60 Leaders attended and kept us busy.
Meanwhile two members attended the Nambour Museum Open Day to monitor the Scout Room and answer inquiries, and to assist the Museum Volunteers.
Thanks to all those who gave up their Saturday.
From "Duty to God" by Deputy Chief Commissioner - Rev. Iain Furby.
After creating heaven and earth, God created Adam and Eve.   And the first thing he said was "DON'T".   "Don't what?" Adam replied.
"Don't eat the forbidden fruit,". God said.
"Forbidden fruit? We have forbidden fruit? Hey Eve. . . we have forbidden fruit!!" "No way!". "Yes way!"
"Do NOT eat the fruit!" roared God.
"Why?" said Adam.
"Because I am your Father and I said so!" God replied, wondering why he hadn't stopped creation after making the elephants.
A few minutes later, God saw His children having an apple break and He was annoyed!
"Didn't I tell you not to eat the fruit?" He boomed.
"Uh huh," Adam replied.
"Then why did you?" said the Father.
"I don't know," said Eve.
"She started it!" Adam said. . . . Did not!" . . . . "Did too" . . . . "DID NOT"
Having had it with the two of them, God's punishment was that Adam and Eve should have children of their own.  Thus the pattern was set and it has never changed.
BUT THERE IS REASSURANCE IN THE STORY.
If you have persistently and lovingly tried to give children wisdom and they haven't taken it, don't be too hard on yourself.
If God had trouble raising children, what makes you think it would be a piece of cake for you?
   And so . . .
Country Meeting 2011
Good weather, good venue, good food, and good company made for an enjoyable Country Meeting.   Fifty-four Guild members from eleven Guilds enjoyed fellowship at Dunethin Rock Scout Campground on the Sunshine Coast on Saturday 2nd April.   Nambour Scout District Fellowship provided the excellent morning tea and lunch, and the proceeds from this day go towards maintaining the Campground.
The Guest Speaker, Venturer Guy Knofke, was well received, and spoke about his experiences at an American Scout Jamboree in 2010.  Guy received financial assistance from the Jack Haffenden Fund, which is managed by the State Guild.   Some news from the meeting part of the day is included in this newsletter.   We now look forward to the next State Event which is Guild Getaway at Esk on the long May weekend.
Thanks go to all members of Sunshine Guild who worked hard on the day. The raffle raised $96.00 (donated by Eleanor, Bill H., and Fay) and the Trading Table raised $89.50 with $15.00 still to come.
Well done Val and George and all those who contributed to the stall.
Founders/Thinking Day.
On Friday 25 February we welcomed members and visitors to Rocky Creek Scout Campground, Landsborough, for our annual commemoration of the lives of Robert and Olave Baden-Powell.   This was celebrated by a Thanksgiving Service, a reading of interesting facts about B-P’s life, and contributions from all present.
Thank you to all who participated.   It was a great day, enjoyed by all, especially the delicious morning tea.   And we were pleased to make a donation to the campground for use of the Paroo Shelter for the day.
It was especially pleasing to welcome two more new members to our Guild- John and Rosalind Ensing.   Well done John and Rosalind.
STOP PRESS
It was decided at our last meeting to take on the project of sorting through memorabilia donated to Rocky Creek Scout Campground, with the idea of creating a small museum dedicated to Beaver Masters Scout District.
Therefore a working bee will be held at the Campground on Friday 25 March. Beginning at 9.30am with Morning Tea.  BYO M/tea and lunch.   As we may be sorting outside the building, a chair and a hat may be a good idea.   Also cardboard boxes may be useful.   Any time you can spare would be appreciated. This may be first day of many to complete the task.
Finally - HOW TO STAY YOUNG
Remember there is no way you can look as bad as that person on your driver’s license.
1. Throw out nonessential numbers. This includes age, weight and height. Let the doctors worry about them. That is why you pay them.
2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down. (to be cont.)
Australia Day at La Balsa
It was a great gathering at La Balsa Park, Buddina. Our Australia Day was held on the Friday and to celebrate the day members brought along a "little bit of Auz". And so we travelled our great country, learnt a bit of history, listened to the reading of an Australian Poem, and even went off shore to visit the America’s Cup with Australia II. And to cap it all off, we enjoyed a beautiful Australian morning with fellowship and good food.
And what a good start to the year – we enrolled Helen Thiess (welcome, Helen, to Sunshine Guild), Lorraine and Bill Rump are set to rejoin (welcome back) and welcome too, visitors Rosalind and John Esing- who we hope to enrol on Founder’s Day.
